There is always this homeless man on 14th St right before you get to Independence Ave. Apparently he has been there for almost 20 years. WELL, yesterday morning the junction where he usually stands and pan-handles was blocked off by police. There didn’t seem to be any obvious reason why it was blocked off.
It turns out that he had been struck by a car. Police officers and security officers from the surrounding buildings were investigating the accident, it was a hit and run.
It just makes me think about how easily a life can be taken away. I didn’t know him, no one really KNEW him. He was just a familiar part of that environment. Something everyone came to expect.
Police were asking everyone they could if they knew anything about him, any family members. It is so sad to think that he could be dead right now (not sure if he survived, but I heard his chances of survival were low), and none of his family would ever know. Who knows when or if they’ll hear about it. That’s assuming he does have a family. Nonetheless, it’s still an unfortunate happening.
